visioning and budgeting a redesign

project goal
A family of 3 is settling into their new home after a year. They've been surviving with a random collection of furniture from facebook marketplace and were craving a more intentional and elevated style.

process
I started with a site visit to assess their existing style and layout. We toured the house together as I interviewed each of them separately, getting a sense of how they flow through the space, what they do there now, what they wish they did, and how they wanted to feel in the space. I compiled a list of all potential changes we could make with their budget and proposed a phased path forward.

We've had to make a lot of negotiations on how much we could accomplish relative to what level of quality we could afford! Given the tight budget, I kept a spreadsheet that helps us understand tradeoffs investing in different pieces, our actual spending, and what we're buying. I've arranged for fabric samples to be shipped to their house, so they can get a feel and look for the furniture ideas we're talking about.

This project is still underway! I am specifying furniture, the clients purchase it, and we periodically video call to arrange and check-in.

See my project proposal.
