food x distance x waste
As a part of the beginning explorations for my MFA thesis, I conducted a small data collection of food. I photographed the purchases and combined their images in an attempt to reveal the relationship between their aesthetics, costs, and our conceptions of them. How can we reclaim the expected shape of a tomato? What kind of information can write over people’s perceptions of food aesthetics? What are the consequences of these actions? How much perfectly edible food gets wasted because of aesthetic imperfections?
